Feedstock Testing

BTG has two test facilities available, which are used for screening feedstocks, process development and optimisation, producing oil samples, and generating engineering data for full-scale plants. For initial screening purposes the small screening unit (2-5 kg of biomass/hour) is used. Between 20 and 30 kg of feedstock is required from the customer for these tests, depending on the nature of the feedstock. Purpose of the initial test is to analyse the eligibility of the feedstock for the pyrolysis process.
BTG has extensive laboratory facilities that go beyond the two pyrolysis units. The dedicated RTD laboratory offers a range of experimental equipment that is available for biomass combustion, gasification, pyrolysis and anaerobic digestion contract research, including test rigs, gas cleaning reactors, a flame tunnel, and test engines.

Project Development

The BTG pyrolysis plant is available with capacities of 2 tons per hour and 5 tons per hour of dry biomass. Development of a larger size plant is underway.
BTG will be responsible for the complete basic system design and guarantees. The core components of the plant will be delivered by BTG. Together with our partners we can deliver a complete pyrolysis plants.
As the biomass pretreatment is very important in the complete pyrolysis process the design of the biomass pretreatment will be done by BTG. The pretreatment of biomass consists of intermediate storage, sizing of biomass and drying of biomass. This way of working ensures that our customers can enjoy the experience we have built up in the complete pyrolysis chain.

BTG Biomass Technology Group, one of the pioneers in pyrolysis, started its fast pyrolysis development at the beginning of the nineties. In 2007, BTG BioLiquids (BTG-BTL), the daughter company of BTG Biomass Technology Group, was established. BTG-BTL is dedicated to the worldwide commercial implementation of the fast pyrolysis technology developed by BTG. Our company, BTG Central Europe, procures the expansion of BTG activities in Central and Eastern Europe.
